Might sound silly but is the sensor plugged in ?

You'll find it on the front of the cylinder head close to the thermostat housing it looks 13mm bolt head with a threaded stub on the end of it & off the top of my head so take this as gospel but I think it's a brown wire with a white stripe that goes on to the stub of the sensor.

Yeah mate found it and it was plugged in then I checked the wire for continuity and that was ok. I then touched the wire against a manifold stud and the gauge went up so would that point to the sensor itself? Thanks again

Give it a try it's certainly sounding like the sensor itself I think the sensors are only a couple of quid last time I bought one from the motor factors.

There were different sensors available for the CVH engines. A Ford dealer will get you the right one by checking your VIN.

Yeh, used to be different coloured sensors, all look and fit the same but there used to be coloured part between the stud and 'nut' part.

If the incorrect one is fitted the gauge reads all to piss.

Purple for the S2, I didn't know this years ago and fit a blue one. The reading was way to high.

MSD sell them for about £11 posted.
