Once mine did something similar to boost cut was the vacuum pipe that goes to the ecu had managed to wiggle its way under the heater surround which squashed it a little bit. Just another thing to check.

how much boost is your car running? if youve got more boost than the standard ecu chip is limited to, it will do this. will boost higher in lower gears but when under load the boost cut will kick in. you say it boosted fine afterwards, was this in 4th or 5th? assuming it was (and the car is chipped to allow more boost and set up accordingly) then i think i may know what it is. i have a similar problem and it only occurs after the car hasnt been run for a while. once its been up to temp for a while, it behaves. its damp related and i think its moisture affecting the dizzy and/or hall sensor (the plug on the dizzy). the vac that goes to the ecu is a good shout though

a friend had an Evo 5 i borrowed for a while and i can remember if you booted it on a really cold morning as it came onto full boost and peaked it would BANG! and drop boost, and then drive fine again. it practically knocked your head off. Turned out if was blowing the spark out.

Thanks to all that have replied the car is running 15psi on a standard ecu and boosted fine after in all gears. at the time the car was warm ( I don't drive it hard until it has warmed up ) and is my daily drive so wasn't left starring for long.

i'm pretty sure around 10 psi is the max on a standard ecu, depending on what one you have. one of the downloadable articles goes into this in more detail.

10PSI on a hearts and diamonds ECU, 8PSI on others.
