Default uprated breathers, vent to atmosphere ????

Hi,

I have a bailey breather system fitted on my s2 erst but Im a bit unsure whether its fitted correctly. The pipe thats supposed to go to the bottom of the metering unit has a small breather filter attached and this vents to atmosphere, the metering unit nozzle has been blocked off. The problem is that I get loads of oil vapours coming out of the small filter and most of the time you can see the smoke coming out of the vent in my bonnet. After reading a set of fitting instructions I have discovered that this particular pipe should be fitted to the metering unit and not vent to atmosphere. Will this affect the running of the car at all and in what way ?

cheers, Duncan

Connect a hose and stick it under the car. Your IC, hoses and the rest will get cloged with oily shit when the vapour is routed into the meteringunit.

If you vent the vapour into the metering unit it is put back in the fuel/air mixture which is not good for the engine. The way you have your breather set-up is the best way of doing it but....you shouldn't really be getting that much vapour/oil out through it imo (possibly theres somthing else wrong??)

Don't do the above...dumping the oil back on the road is for idiots...other people have to use the road (I.e. Motorcyclists etc....) so spitting oil onto the road is not a good idea. What you can do it take the small filter off and route the pipe into an old oil container in the bay to act as a catch tank
