New to RST - anybody have time to answer questions?
Hi there,
I have a mate over here form POlish Escort Drivers Club and he rebuild Escort RS Turbo. He want's to make some serious horse-power from it so advice would be helpfull. I don't know much about those cars so some questions may be stupid, but it may be easier for some expert to answer quickly than for me to google for months
-it runs k-jeronic as standard? Right? can this be mapped, modded for some serious bhp?
-what kind of turbo to run? They guy tels me T3 from those is good for up to 240bhp?
-what kind of injectors it runs? what can be used instead?
-any non-standard mods needed for let's say 300HP. I mean non-stadard things like Cossie headgasket issue?
-how much are forged pistons for those? Cossie pistons? Does itneed different con-rods/crank?
Thanks for answers

k jet is non mappable i think. unless u use a fifth injector.
standard t3 wont make 240bhp imo.
dont think you can get upgraded injectors for k jet.
for that kind of power just about everything will be non standard.
forged pistons i think are available from £350 upwards.
Thanks for answers

It's KE-jetronic, not K. It can not be mapped as it's not based on any form of digital technology. As standard it will work upto around 220bhp depending on the position of the moon and the weekday of the car's production. As a friendly advice, bin the KE-jet as the first thing if aiming for serious bhp. The 240bhp from the standard turbo is an absolute maximum figure. Nobody recommends to push it that far.

Indeed it is KE Jetronic and this is not mappable, a fifth injector is possible
You will need a heavily modified T3 to get serious BHP from the engine,
Switching to Cosworth motormanagement is a possibility, then you will have your mappable management.
Maybe change the engine capacity or build a ZVH engine (zetec block with CVH head), chargecooler instead of an air to air intercooler.
These kind of BHP figures will set you back serious money alltogether.
In 1985 the group A series 1 Escort RS Turbo had about 260 BHP and on this car about everything was non standard......
Good luck!!

The KE jetronic system is actually quite good when setup properly. As sts, the KE will cope to 220bhp. After that, it a 5th injector is the best way to go, which can fuel reliably to over 300bhp. The std turbo can't be pushed to much more than 200bhp. Changing to a stage 2 turbo - which has a bigger compressor wheel - will allow uptp 240 bhp. A stage 3 turbo, which additionally has a bigger exhaust housing, will develop uptp 280bhp. After that, u can move onto a t34.
The injectors are fine as std, and are not the reason why 220 bhp is the limit of the std system. The reason is, after 220 bhp, the system cannot control the injectors properly.
Std headgaskets are fine, and can cope with over 300bhp. The std pistons are very good, an are good to 250hp, if not more. Cosworth forged items are available for 550 pounds. The std conrods do need changing to steel items if u want to run over 250bhp reliably. Std crank never a problem. Std intercooler limits boost to 15 psi, and around 180bhp.
