Exclamation correct rear decal

hello all, i have a 89 f reg rs turbo which is on change over year, fitted with 90 spec interior and 88 front bumper and spoiler, now should the decal be a 90 spec one or an early type??

Also being on change over year should the interior be fitted with the rear courtesy light and the extended gearstick surround?? any help would be ace! cheers

Both of my 89 F S2's were exactly as you described - (pre-90 spec front bumper, pre-90 spoiler, light recaros and outline boot decal; same as your sig).
My 88 E S2 had the dark recaros and the solid boot decal.
hope that helps.

Not sure there is such a thing as a 90 spec decal except where decal suppliers are concerned - makes it easy for them to differentiate maybe?
Anyways it wasn't just the RS that changed - there are loads of non 90 spec escorts with the hollow decal.

like this
https://passionford.com/forum/restor...p-project.html

if you search you will find loads of pre 90 spec XR's too like that.

e.g.

Great feedback guys. I will stick with the early type decal then! I thought this was the correct one to use but just wanted to be sure!

That's just the label used by graphics co's - it was 100% available on 1989 cars.

I understand not everyone knowing about the decal but I thought everyone knows the 90 spec came out in 89?

lol. I'm losing interest now.

My 100% original RST, same as yours on the cross over spec. Didn't have the extended console or courtesy light.

Milesy is correct. If you need any other confirmation head over to the RSOC, theres plenty off info that will tell you the same as Milesy.. The above pic of the black S2 is not 100% standard...i'd say 90% standard.

No problem Milesy, The RSOC has everything an RS owner needs to know. Plus numerous members would know their stuff....Just like theres no such thing as 90 bloody spec tail-lights.

The early (or solid) decal looks so much better than the later one.

No matter how original I wanted the car to be I would not be able to put a 90 spec decal on, it looks horrible imo.

Not true bud, most of the changes on the s2 were made in 89. My s2 was registered Nov 89 and is full 90 spec apart from the crossover pipe and it has the smaller washer bottle top. It's a 2 owner car and was 100% standard and original when I bought it

Yours is a very late 89 m8 and how do you know that for certain it might have had bits changed in its life m8? and was maybe going to be registered as as a 1990? i know they ran out of bits or maybe stopped making them (88 spec) so maybe why some are a mix and match of 88 and 90 specs! certainly i wouldnt be putting a 90 decal on a car that wasnt a "genuine" 90 spec this is very confusing as i have owned 23 of these and all d reg, f reg and some g reg had the early type decal where as some g and all h plates had the 90 spec, very confusing lol

I build cars for a living, We make cars long before being registered, and plenty of cars get the 'late' options before the year comes...yours is still a 90 spec car and an earlyish G plate.

S2 C-F are 88(80) spec and G-k are late 90 spec models. I'd imagine that plenty of cars with 90 spec interior before the cut of was requested by the customer, or simply fitted in the early 90s when the phase of swapping parts over to look 'better'.

I have spoken to both of the previous owners mate and no parts have been changed. Ford did make things quite confusing I must admit though

As I said earlier, most of the changes occurred in 1989 (F plate) and not 1990. Interior changed from the dark (Daytona) to the light grey (Zolda), inner wing was changed, fuel tank was changed etc. I have, however, seen plenty of 1989 G plates with the earlier front bumper and spolier.
