Yeah the innovate says around 6" from the turbo in the downpipe... Will it be safer if i fit it further back, around the gearbox area for example? My system is wrapped, the downpipe wrapped twice and i don't wanna cook my sensor!

My stack one (but they mostly all use the same type of sensor) has been in the down pipe 6ish inches from the turbo for over a year and hasent missed a beat (my down pipe is also wrapped and i run a gt30 at 2.6 bar so gets hot lol). And many other people have theres in the same place as that is where they are meant to be fitted! Sensor position is not the problem with the innovate!

An Innovate tech suggests this in their own forum:


"The turbo does not change the overall AFR, but it mixes the gases from the individ. cylinders thoroughly. So after the turbo you get the average AFR from each cylinder. Placement after the turbo is a question of heat. You don't want to have the sensor in gas thats hotter than ~800 degC ideally and you want the bung temp < 500 degC. As the turbo conducts a lot of heat into the downpipe walls, we found about 12-14 in after the turbo works for most applications.

I looked at my Innovate manual and it does not make any mention of 6" from turbo output.
Maybe this information was from many years ago with the LM-1 when poeple were having issues with them.

Most say place O2 sensors as far away as possible just before the Cat.

Just trying to be helpful.

if i still had the fitting manual on my lap top id post it up! but as stated my stack one is in the same place as well as most other peoples with out problems!

That seems fine for you and a few others.

The lifetime for the O2 sensor goes up at lower temperatures. If one is custom fitting a new wide band sensor why not put it where it will see lower temperatures not to mention lasting longer? Anyhow just mentioning what Innovate techs are advising. Do what you like.

Just looking at the innovate website and it doesnt actually mention any distances from turbo etc... It mentions in the troubleshooting section, that if the sensor does get too hot to re locate it saying the best place is 2-3 feet from the tailpipe or right before the cat.
So Perry i do apologise and will be fitting it as far back from the turbo as the wiring loom allows!
One slight concern i do have about the Innovate Kit which i've just brought is the exhaust bung is mild steel and i have a stainless system... Don't really wanna weld that into my lovely system lol! I'll source a stainless bung i think!

I think my bung is mild steel too, which i welded into my stainless system, welded fine and hasn't rusted away yet

IIRC you can get different bungs which also act as a heat sink to cool the sensor, mine is in the down pipe and it hasn't had any problems so far but if i ever get another exhaust etc i'll probably move it further down etc.

I fitted my bung when i got my innovate set up a good few years ago now if it wasent in the instructions that i was emailed from innovate then it must have been ggr that told me as i fitted the bung before getting the kit as i had my down pipe off to wrap it!. When i get home ill check my stack instruction to see where they say fit it. But as i say most have them in the down pipe with out any problems

Lovely, fuck it i'll weld it into my system as its only an old scorpion i wanna upgrade to a 3" goose at somepoint!
