Default first time starting rebuild engine.

hi, there is this thing bugging me for a while now.
On monday i'll be starting my rebuild engine ( that is if i have my parts by then ).
It's got a new oilpump and thats the thing, people say when you have a new oil pump keep starting the engine ( without plugs and fuel ) till the oil light goes out than you can start it up.
It's got a new cam which people always say don't ever let it idle, well when getting the new oilpump the pump up oil the camshaft is also turning but very slow. Wont it be a bad thing to let it turn so slow?
Or is it ok to just keep starting till the oil light goes out, start up and then run in the camshaft?

Thanks

I was also paranoid about this,

Its far far more important to crank the car until the oil pressure light goes out than to worry about the cam.

In the end i fitted my old camshaft, so i didn't have to run the cam in at 2000rpm on a brand new engine.

Prime the oil pump (fill it full of oil before you even turn the key), then crank the car until the oil light goes out,

well that's also a problem, the cam is sooo damaged i dont want to put it back in the cam and head are so baldy scratched inside i dont want to use the cam in my other cilinderhead.
I'm worried it will damage my other cilinderhead too, so is it ok than too use a new cam with the first start up?
And when getting oil pressure, start it up and immediatly go to 2-2.5k rpm?

Thanks

yeah should do. And regards to running the engine in it's best to follow cam manufacturers instructions.

Did mine recently, turn it over long as you need to to get the oil round then start it and head for 2000rpm. You'll know if its ok or not by the noises, the lifters WILL be noisy for about 5 minutes but theres not a lot anyone can do about that.

Then follow these instructions if you like: http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/runin.htm

I did this but had an issue with my Piper cam kit getting valve bounce at 5000rpm. Have put original valve springs back in so will see what the result is like tomorrow. You may have the same issue as it seems quite common. Don't be in too much of a hurry to run it in after the cam break in period. You don't have to be too gentle with it, but dont be too hard either.
