Default con rod confusion

hi guys ive bought a silver top block bored out to 2.1 breathers fitted. i am goin to zvh turbo this block. i ve heard there is a diffrence from black top con rods to silver top con rods, do i have to use silver top conrods for conversion with low comp pistons.

i understand gettin uprated conrods , so will have to get rods compatible with silver top , which i am unsure of, will i b able to buy pistons tht r a straight fit without skimming them for low compression ,

wow ive got a sore finger now,

first time engine builder although ive done bits n pieces to the 1 im running now, but had loads o probs with it ,

all info welcome guys

this site is addictive

If your buying forged pistons and rods just buy ones for the silver top engine, company's like Wossner etc....do piston and rod packages suitable for cvh,zvh and full zetec turbo, just tell them what you require and what type of engine your building

Depends what budget you have. If you have decent management then your options are open. Me and a friend have identical bottom ends that were build for a few hundred quid and work well and do what we want. Im using a ZVH 2.1 and a friends is ZT 2.1. Just find a H/g to suit your compression.

The bottom ends are basically this:

Block bored to 86mm
Vauxhall c20XE pistons
Silver top rods machined to 21mm
Pistons drilled ( to allow oil to the pin)
8mm ARP rod bolts

My ZVH got 246bhp and my friends ZT got 299bhp.

If your wanting forged items then do a search on here and many people have already done this. IIRC i think janno does a good deal on wosner pistons and pec rods.

There is not a lot of rods out there with a 21mm small end this is why the standard silver top rods are machined out. The black top rods can't be used for these pistons. If you do decide on using standard silvertop rods then i wouldn't use LET pistons because of compression. From memory they have a 13cc dish compared to the pressure cast XE items which have a 3cc dish. If your getting the crank balanced then i would do the rods and flywheel at the same time. How much power do you want?

I used a felpro head gasket.
