Default Alternator wiring?

Just had a look at the botched wiring on my s2 turbo,
the guy I bought it from fitted new alt but looks like
there's the thin wire comes out I'm guessing that's dash warning light?
then there's a thicker brown wire coming out of block
about an inch then a thicker wire's been wroughly soldered
onto it and goes straight to the battery??
sorry been a while I've been around Ford's but I thought one went to the
starter? is this correct?

any help greatly appricaited.

From memory, alternator - starter - battery, a 10-12mm thick cable i think!

As said it goes via starter to battery and yes the thin blue wire is the field excitation wire which is the ground from the warning light.
