best mod for escort rs turbo s1
Could anyone tell me what company would they recommened to either modify or to build a new engine? Or what would be the best route? I have been talking to Jano at oddkidds, specialized engines and also norris motorsport and they all sound so convincing. I am looking for power in the region of 260bhp and would like to here what you have to say first before i decide.
Any advice appreciated
Cheers Joe.

Thats the plan.
Jano reckons £1900 will get the 260bhp where nms would be looking for around £7000, saying that they will be giving you a completely new engine.

Whats the condition of your engine at the minute,
I use jano, he represents good value for money, its a 520mile round trip for me to visit him and I've visited 3 times, only 1 in my escort though, if that gives you anything to go from.

At the moment its not in the car because its after getting a full body restoration so engine is next on the list.
Engine has 80,000 miles on it and when it was taken out it was going great.
Just need to decide of whats the best root.. thanks for that jano is looking like he will be getting the business

Dunno on specialised engines.
But if the engine is out I would defo consider a freshen up/bottom end rebuild if your looking for 260 bhp I would imagine you will need uprated conrods.

Will it ever end !!!!!!!
Jano all day ahead of Specialised Engines - i used to go to specialised a lot to deliver parts - they are ok if you are old school i.e. normally aspirated engines, mk1, mk2 escorts etc etc old pinto engines etc etc but not for anything newer

260is on the limit of the conrods. NMS will be looking to replace them with steel rods at that power output more than likely.
From Jano's price that must be for a big port head, turbo, cam, 5th injector, maybe a few other bits and a set up. NMS's price will be a full engine build and maybe a management swap to L8, possibly from a completely standard car.
I think you need to research what each of the 2 tuners are giving you for your money as it seems like you're comparing 2 completely different specs.

based on my experience mate i'd recommend Jano as well. the guy's a top man who will only ever advise you on what you need. his whole ethos is about value for money. his own cars speak volumes mate. just watch his black xr3 on track and you'll see what i mean. it's been built a lot cheaper than many other tuners demo cars yet easily keeps up with most bigger powered cars and hardly ever misses a beat.

this is what nms do. (taken off nms website)
Stage 5
The engine must now come apart completely, the bottom end being rebuilt to the highest level, featuring low compression forged pistons, and a fully lightened and balanced bottom end fitted with an uprated 4 paddle clutch. At this level I advise the fitment of our stronger steel H section con-rods as this is the absolute limit for std items. Coupled with a stage 3 cylinder head and camshaft setup and all the previously mentioned modifications, one of our double core Cosworth intercoolers is now fitted with reverse charge carrier. A 5th injector and MF2 fuel driver is now fitted, both the fuel and ignition ecus are fitted with new "chips" raising the rev limit to 7200rpm. The final piece of the jigsaw is a stage 3 hybrid 0.48 T3 and along with 23psi of boost generates around 260bhp and is what we consider the best all round drivable package. (Our Cosworth management conversion can be added to this setup instead of the 5th injector route for a more refined setup but power will remain the same)

Karl (NMS) said to me a while back he will not build CVH's to that level any more as the blocks are too old and prone to cracking, the £7000 will include a duratec block relinered to a 1600 (if wanting to stay 1600) with custom crank, rods, pistons, etc..
£1900 Would just about get you pistons & rods (£800), worked head (£350), cam (£300) and stage 3 T3 turbo (£500) if we are talking new prices (I wouldnt want to build an engine using second hand parts) so no it wont get you a 260bhp running car, Jano must be using second hand parts to do it if that price includes all parts and labour?!

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
as said above 1900 pounds wont cover too much jano must change the management to get the quoted power as i remember countless threads he can get 230bhp on a standard engine purely through management change on green 803´s. After a management change the budget is pretty much spent

why are you adamant at sticking at 1600cc mate ?
imo , a zvh conversion would be far better in terms of bang for your buck , and if you have a low miler cvh head tis all the better ,
i wouldnt want to speculate what you get from jano for 1900 quid , but he does seem to know his onions
260 for £7k , fucking pricy , but i bet you could give it death and never have to worry bout it , just ask butch or ollie ,
for me a compotent engine could be buit and mapped on efi for sub £4k and get your solid 260 hp all day long ,
think the biggest question is what makes you think you NEED 260 bhp ?? did you just pluck that figure out the air and say thats for me ,
??
imo decide what you want the car to do , road track , weekend toy ,ect
then id decide what power you need for the car to fufill that job ,
if not your just throwing your money away !!!!!

Most people have realised that ZVHs are shit beefy. The best options are stick with the CVH or build a full Zetec.
ZVHs produce all their power and are out of steam after 5500rpm. They drive like a diesel, produce all their power at once in a huge gearbox smashing torque spike then throw the towel in because of the long stroke crank and restrictive breathing from the head for a 2litre engine. You're essentially taking the 2 bad parts from each engine and sticking them together.

sorry for the delay getting back to ye. thanks for all the responses.
think im just going to stick with a steady, safe ish 220bhp on the standard engine.
im going to go with jano aswell, simply because it seems to be a great deal and i have heard elsewhere that he is the man..
perhaps stage 2 hybrid, larger intercooler, -31 acurator, spit fire plugs, and then he will complete the setup etc.
car is also just begining for prep work then onto paint. will get pics up asap.
