Yep, s1 crank uses different old style oil pump, toothed rotor.
90 spec blocks have cps hole.
Think there maybe some internal differences which may have been mentioned on here before, worth doing a search tbh!

Bit of a blanket statement there mate.

Sodium filled exhaust valves, is about the only thing that makes any difference.

lol, the journal size is listed as being the same.... whats bigger? I've no intention of buying an s1 so im never going to be able to measure one. Its got to be said that bigger isn't necessarily better, and how many cvh cranks break

Think id rather have the new style oil pump and be done with it.

Jano is right there is a difference in the cranks I cant quite remember what it is but it's negligible, sodium filled valves this old will be brittle much like the blocks I wouldnt use either when building a engine.

Have been thinking about this, do the series one cranks have fillet radius edges (sp & grmr)?

Im guessing they did this,as the series one was designed with rally sport in mind.Wonder why they did'nt bother on the series 2...

Same reason they used a Ghia/XR3i front ARB, base model steering wheel, standard exhaust valves etc. Made the car cheaper to build as nothing needed to be homologated for rally. A Series 2 isn't a patch on a Series One in standard trim unfortunately.

Yes they do but so do a lot of other CVH cranks, from what I've read (and only from what I've read) all MK3 cranks had fillet radius edges as do some of the later CVH cranks.
