Default GRS intercooler fitting + Kenlowe fan(s)?

Hi everyone, I have just purchased a used GRS intercooler which the mounting tabs have broken off of. This isn't really a problem as I have a friend who could weld it, but wanted to check it anyone else has had this and if there are any other ways to mount it? I thought about making up some kind of cage thing to house it in to bolt up where the intercooler would have originally , but that might just be a stupid idea I can imagine it rattling and what not.

Now the real question. Fans. I'm told Kenlowes are the way to go. Will a 10" kenlowe keep the car cool? Or will I need twin 10", or a single larger fan? What would be best option? Also where to buy them from?

Thanks in advance, sorry for the 20 questions.

is it an 88 or 90 spec bumper? you need to mount it properly and get it as close to the rad as possible look at my thread for how i did mine took a lot of fiddling but now car runs nice and cool with two 9.5" fans.

Car has a Bonus bumper mate, not too worried about the bumper I can trim that.

not sure about the one, you may find its not enough during summer months.

Ive got twin fans, 11" on the rad not on the cooler. Don't ask why 11" lol, they overhang on the rad alittle but do an excellent job

ive got a grs with a kenlowe mounted on it, ive never had a prob with over heating.

it would be best if the fan was mounted on the rad, i cant as my turbos to big and it already up against the rad

You'll only have overheating issues with the fans on the intercooler if your cooling system isn't fully up to scratch or you have other underlying issues. Mine ran mega hot before the rebuild then in hot weather to Ford Fair in 09, running lean so hotter than normal, temps NEVER went above half way.

Well at the moment the car has a standard cooler, standard rad, standard fan and the car has never got remotely hot in any weather, I just hope I don't create problems with these parts lol.

Who is the guy to speak to on here about fans? The guy who makes the GRS coolers?

Definitely going with fans on the rad, I think I'll go with 2 10" kenlowes with an in car adjuster thingy wotsit and a cossie thermostat so it defaults to the norm but i can make it come on sooner if needs be.

Ive always wondered whether i should of mounted the fans on the rad instead, really not sure. Probably makes sense to as the cooler doesn't need fans helping it unlike the rad.

trouble is when searching posts you'll always get differing views.

The above peeps have no issues , i didn't want to chance it. My rad is alloy and tend to get warmer than standard, hence why I mounted my fans on the rad instead.

Bit of an odd size i went for being 11" lol, but they do the trick.

question is though, If fans were mounted to provide air to the cooler, would it help act temps?

I can see there being an issue as fans will only operate at intervals, unless switched on. Therefore block intercooler from getting air when not in operation? Unless reverse mounted to pull air through.

Hope the above makes sense !

Cheers

Yea I think I'm going with twins between the rad and the cooler. I'm not going for massive power so I'd sacrifice a bit of ACT lowering to keep the water in check to be honest.

If you think about it the air to cool the rad has to come from somewhere, and thats through the IC fins regardless of whether the fans are mounted to the front or rear of them.

The efficency of water cooling comes from how much air gets through the rad. if you mount the fans to the IC there will be some air that escapes directly to the sides of the radiator behind it and not passing through, reducing efficiency slightly, but exactly how much i dont know.

Also with two kenlowes going at it they will be effectively pulling air through the intercooler too I'd guess, where as cooler mount push it through the cooler and what's left over goes into the rad. Then add in the fact cooler mount block some of the surface area of the cooler as well, i definitely think that rad mount is the way.

Ive got mine on the rad because when you put the fans on the IC it looked to me like they where blocking alot of the IC and to me thats not going to be good when you are driving and wanting to keep AT down, you dont need the fans to cool the AT when the car is stud just need to cool the coolant. just how i see it tho

The fans would be more efficient on the rad. The effect they would have on ACT's would be marginal, if any as the car wouldn't be moving if the fans had to come on. When the car is moving more air will be passed through the rad than any fan could provide.

Mine are on the front of the cooler as I think it looks look as fuck lol

That does look the boobies to be fair, but I'm building a sleeper Estate car, so the cooler will be painted black and I don't want anything on show at all.
