First off insurance, as for the car Check front cross member, front and rear floor pans, rear chassis near rear springs, inner and outer sills, battery tray and fuse box, basically everywhere that's metal, if your unsure there maybe someone on here close by who could help

Checking for damp carpets helps. Mine had damp carpets when I bought it. I was hoping the weather strips were tired but it turned out to be a bloody hole in the scuttle panel right under the windscreen. If it has a sun roof, check round the sunroof aswell. Good chance of bubbling round there. I also think it's worth checking as much of the loom as you can see. The list is endless really lol. It'd be naive to think that unless you're paying around 5K you won't have work to do. Worth it though.

Always buy these cars on the condition of the bodywork, not whats under the bonnet. Check everywhere, arches, chassis rails especially where the spring cups are, scuttles, battery trays, fuse box area, sunroof, corners of windscreen, boot floor, under rear lights, pretty much everywhere lol.

How will you go insuring a modified car with a ban on your record? You ready for that?

Mate of mines drink drive ban is up just after the new year, he's 20 and went to look at a Golf 1.8T GTI last night. I told him the same thing.

True but that being said my freind had a drink drive ban and managed to insure a 2.2 Vectra SRi and a baby Blade. So you may not be too bad and interestingly enough, when I went to Adrian Flux, my insurance qoute came down by £200 when I told them the modifications..........work that one out.
