Default is this right?

cars been in for test and the emissions are really low according to the tester.. he said its probably dangerously lean..anyway i took the plugs out to check condition and they are black, which looks to mne like its rich..it definitely needs a setup but was wondering if the car can be lean and rich at the same time..if so what can be causing this? thanks

i think, if i'm remembering right from my lecturer (does engine mapping for motorsport teams) you can run soooo rich you can get a lean lambda reading. cant remeber the exact details.

what car and wha spec?

its a s1 still on mfi..been chipped with exhaust n thats it..the plugs are really caked up with black soot mind..in fact that caked up the wire brush wont clean them up..going to get new ones..the car has been fully stripped and rebuilt so something is out..what are the dangers of running if its super rich?

well seams like there is something wrong then. need to go get it properly setup asap! if left it will certainly coke up your engine internals robbng you of power and can also setup localised hot spots causing detonation which could result in a blown engine. this is thinking to the extreme though. worth keeping the plugs/taking a pic to show your tuner when you get it setup aswell as the emmisions test results.
