why would you need maximum adjustment on the distributor to get 12 degrees. its a mates car and has been in a garage to see if they can find out why cambelt of etc to no avail!what could throw the timeing out so far?anything that can fail and retard the timeing?

the car itself seems to drive/boost fine but something is not right?

knock sensor maybe?

cam timing could be out, if it's advanced/retarded then it throws the dizzy timing out.
may be a faulty dizzy.
could be knock sensor on the series two, undo it and wrap it in something soft, see if that makes a difference.

Could also be ACT sensor, a faulty ECU, or faulty Dizzy.

Split pipe or a split on the diaphram of the vacuum advance/retard module maybe.

try taking the pipe on and off, and if it doesnt alter the timing as you do so, there is an issue.
