Chassis Leg Rot
Not worth fixing, it'll just rotten elsewhere in a year, just get it completely replaced. Not very difficult, but time consuming and working under the car is never a pleasure for anyone. Have a look at these pictures. They'll give you an idea of the work:

if its just rotted on the S part off the leg and the rest is good just get that bit sorted, to renew both legs is a big job unless you doing this

Hiya.
I have litterally just replaced both my rear legs this weekend. legs are 30 + VAt from any pattern part place. They are exactly right and included all brackets already on them.
Took 2 hours to strip inside and out on friday after work on a ramp then all day sat to get old off and new on. Plated the boot up and fitted back up on sunday in 3 hours including all sealing and undercoating.
I got a bloke from work to do most of it inc the weldin for 300 and used a spare door skin for the plates.
thats £370 for the whole lot and its a proper job too. looks so much better now!
Hope that helps.
Alex
p.s. word of warning, if the legs a pretty rotten then the boot floor will prob need patching but thats a quick job.

Nice one Alex
- was thinking about starting mine soon.
The boot has already got a hole on top of the chassis rail so expetcing to have to plate it - might try to get a boot pan to cut in sections ?
Glad to here its possible though

Nice one. Go for it. Set aside one weekend and you'll be fine.
Dont take as gospel but last time i looked boot floor is no longer available for the mk4. Not sure though... Door skin does work perfectly though!
Good luck, Alex
