Default What would you pay for a G plate series 2?

Well this is my first post guys so be gentle with me.

I'm thinking of going for a series 2 turbo,i've seen one thats 100% original in Mercury Grey on a 1989 G plate.

Its only done 69000 original miles with verifaction and history to back it up and its only had 3 owners from new!

I haven't viewed it yet,but looking at the pic it looks mint.

Here she is.............

what do you think guys and gals, what's she worth?

Welcome

If its as good condition as you describe a fair price will be around £3500 IMHO (bit more poss), but engine would need to sound and run smooth.
Any rust to chassis rails, floor, or battery tray then under £3000 and much near £2000 depending and severity of rust and engine condition.

Thanx for the welcome guys.

The price this motor is going for is £2495,its the straightest and untouched i've found so far.

I've always preferred going for original,i haven't gone wrong in 14 years of motoring touch wood, well a couple of times maybe, lol.

So as its only 40 miles away from me i'll give it a call tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanx again guys.

£2500 ain't bad at all if its genuine 69k miles, and if body is sound then defo is good price. Engine/turbo might be getting to the point where it is tired but might well do another 70k or more ok.

Sounds good though. Keep us posted, take some pics and post em up - especially if you decide to have it

Well i've just phoned the seller up and he still has the car.

Sounds very promising from what i've been told so far........

The guy selling the car is middle aged(50's)therefore my theory is he hasn't hammered it.

He's owned the car for 8 years only covering 23000 miles when he bought it,in the last year he's only done 300 miles between MOT's for which he's had a brand new std genuine Ford exhaust fitted beforehand and that was it(last week).

New tyres have recently been fitted and the car is 100% std and never had anything modified fitted to it.

The only thing he's stated wrong is when you brake hard you feel juddering through the wheel, thats warped disks and a pop job.

And he's willing to drop the price because of that problem.

Sounds like good potential to me so i'm gonna have a look in half an hour.

I shall keep you guys informed.

about a year and a half ago i bought a G plate mercury grey S2, it had had 2 very careful owners, a folder thicker than the bible with every receipt since it rolled out the factory, it had been serviced every 3000miles by PE and generally upkept by PE, it was standard apart from a PE stainless exhaust. its totally free of rust and a real good example, i paid £3895 for all that mate!

Pan24v - if you don't have it - I will (or someone else here)! Less than 2500 for 69k, owned 8 years and original - got to be good. Original spots en all

BTW looks like its the crossover spec one, like my G plater - I.e. 90 spec interior and 88 spec bumpers and spoiler.

I did m8 but was pretty much disappointed.

For what he was asking for it,it would have cost me more than the asking price to get it right.

And i haven't got the time or the facilities to start stripping out and cutting out bad metal etc.

Don't get me wrong, the car wasn't a complete dog,but she was far from mint on the external side of things like silly dings and scratches.

The guy loved his touch up brushes aswell, the rear spoiler on the drivers side looked like it had been hammerited!!

So an overview on the mechanics/electrical..........good rattle free healthy running engine, clutch release bearing whining(common),brake disks shot(easy job),rev counter don't work, needs a new VSS as the fuel comp don't read the instant econ, everything else electrical wise is fine.

An overview of the body/interior..........gap alignment all round the car is excellent, paintwork scratched all over the place, poor touch up in certain areas,front/rear arches good, sills good, boot floor good as far as i could see, floor pans and sills looked alright, battery tray starting to go on the inner wing corner join, rot noticed by the blower motor, front panel starting to go on the bumper mounts and near the cross member.
Interior is '90 spec Recaro with a slight burn in the drivers seat, otherwise considering the age of the car is pretty much mint.It even still has the std Ford stereo in it.

Overall verdict.........Not worth the asking price,i'm not expecting a minter but i am expecting to get a lot more for my money than what i saw yesterday.

Tops i would have paid is around £1500-£1700.

Would think its worth a tad more than that - IMHO really not a the much bad with it (for an RST), other than sorting battery tray and tidying the touch up jobs. £2500 being a bit high, but around £2000-2250 i would think. Couple of mates have brought RSTs for £1500-1700 and sounds in better nick than theirs.

But you get a general impression when you see one and your best to walk away if concerned anayway. Happy hunting and good luck.
