mk3 Escort Zetec alternator?
Which alternator and mounting bracket do I need when fitting a silver top Zetec into a mk3 Escort?
I've got the CVH mount and alternator on there at the moment, with the Zetec pulley, but it hits the front ARB mount.
Anyone help?

I just dropped the Zetec in with its own mount and alternator and everything. It's a tight fit with only millimeters to the radiator, but I chose this route because I needed the PS pump.

Have done some research of my own. It seems the early alternator mount, which I have as my car is an XR3 rather than XR3i, is different to the later type.
Early type is the same as you find on a mk2 XR2. Later type locates the alternator lower down and brings the tensioner over the top.
It seems you need the later type, but I'll find out when I get one!

Was that in a mk3 Escort? I'm interested in the PAS setup. Which rack did you use?

Never heard of an early an late mk3 alternator mount? The mk3 and mk4 mounts are similar but different, with the mk4 mount dropping the alternator a few centimeters more. These can be identified by the fact that the mk4 mount has the support attached to the mount, where as the mk3 mount has the support bar attached to the block.
For PAS, I'm just using the US Escort rack form 1987. Mind tough that mine is a standard and standard LHD.

Maybe it's mk3 vs mk4 then, rather than early and late. I know there is a difference between XR3 and XR3i, but it's quite possible the pic I saw of an XR3i one was from a mk4.
Thanks for the tip about PAS. Obviously, LHD is no good for me, but maybe there was a UK Escort mk4 with PAS? I was planning on using an electric pump.

There's practically no chance of finding a mk4 PAS rack. The best fits are Escort mk5 and Nissan Bluebird. I have both of these rack and trial fitted them to my spare bulkhead. None are plug-and-play though. If I had to do it again, I might go the mk5 route. This will require removing the rack mounting panel, but after that it will be quite straight forward. The bluebird rack will mount to the original mounting location, but needs modifications to rotate it around it's axes. The steering column input shaft will point quite straight up otherwise. I still have the racks, if you need some measurements or something.
