hi recently bought a chipped ecu not fitted it yet but got told earlier today, mines has 3 squres watever colour they r cant remember, but got told it wasnt compatible with my new collins chipd love hearts and diamond 1!! is this true or a load of old bulll!!!!!

You can put a S1 (early S2) ECU in the later RS's but not the other way round as there is no knock sensor and the ECU needs one plugged in or the timing will be hugely retarded!
Blue-Red-Blue = S1's (B, C, D)
Blue-Red-White = Early S2's, with no knock sensor, mainly the first D plates
Blue-Red-Black = S2's with a knock sensor (E, F, G)
Hearts & Diamonds = 90 spec, with a knock sensor (G, H)
Blue-Red-Blue = S1's (B, C, D)

No, the ECU needs a signal all the time, so must have a knock sensor plugged in if it is a later ECU.
When I had my first RR a few years back I unplugged the knock sensor as they can be oversensitive, and low and behold my ECU was pulling the timing right back! Had to leave it plugged in.
