Default intercoolers

so just wondering for example if u had a car that ran 250 bhp but then put a standard intercooler on it would it be restricted down to 160/170?
also what intercooler would u advise for 250 bhp and whats the best price for this option?

Yes you would loose power, but more importantly you would have very high ACT's resulting in detonation and potential engine damage!

GRS, Radtec, or if your on a low budget i've heard good things about the Airtec ones too.

If your on a low budget you should aim for less power imho, its the champagne ideas and lemonade pockets which make RS Turbo's unreliable.

Do it properly, do it once

I would most certainly upgrade the intercooler, high act temperatures can cause major and expensive problems, the very best intercooler you can afford is what you should buy imho

A bit of tape will put a picture on a wall, a nail and hanger will keep it up there, you can make do or do it properly

Many high powered CVH have used the GRS intercoolers, they are proven well regarded and keep their second hand value reasonably well.
You can not go wrong with a GRS imho

The turbo coolers are not needed imho

Half width cooler isn't worth a squirt. I got one new years back at a cost of £240 to only replace it with another intercooler (full width) after about 2 years. Get yourself a second hand GRS mate you won't go far wrong I wouldnt't rate a half width intercooler for anything much past 200bhp, I know mine hit a ceiling of 199bhp at SCA years back becuase the intercooler just couldn't cope with what was being asked of it

I have the same opinion of fans as intercoolers, get the best you can afford and do not go cheap, I've got my intercooler as close to my radiator (large capacity alloy rad) as it can go (its touching) and Kenlows on the front of the intercooler blowing through both of them. Not cheap fans but I do not get temperature problems in any weather

There was an Intercooler test in Fast Ford a few months back. IIRC the airtek one was the winner. I have one and rate it very well.
