drive shaft nuts

Default drive shaft nuts

hello people. i have just put the nuts on that keep the drive shaft in the hubs..thing is the ns goes onto the driveshaft more than the os...they are both on as tight as i can get them..have i done something wrong or is this normal? cheers in advance

why did you take them out?
are they new ones or pattern ones?
i had a complete mare fitting my new pattern shaft the other day as it was too tight in the splines.
i managed to wack it with a rubber mallet for a good half hour then i could just manage to get a nut on it.
i wound it up but it didnt look like it was through far enough.
so i then gave it some megga leverage and it went on some more but i think pattern ones are not perfectly machined so they could vary a bit.
as long as the nut is right over the thread and the center non threaded bit is sticking through i dont think you can go wrong coz its not gonna come undone

took them out cos ive been doing a bareshell resto..they are proper ford driveshafts and nuts...everything went back together fine...just a bit nervous there is summat wrong and it comes loose

they have a "built in" washer, if you get me? does this make a difference? both nuts are the same, from ford, just one wont go on as much as the other..was wondering if the drive shaft have a different amount of threads than the other

Should have a big washer under the nuts,If you mean the stake nuts on the shafts

they do have the big washer behind the nuts...looks like its a shit guard for the bearing? dont know what you mean by stake nuts? is that the one that keeps the drive shaft in the hub? if so thats what im having issues with

yeah cos you have to stake them into the shaft so they dont undo ie knock into the groove.and yes they should be even bearing cups carnt be driven home correctly
