Need a box for my (S2 1988 F) found a cheap mk4 diesel box, will it fit and work ok?

As said it will fit but you wont have an LSD and contrary to myth the diesel box is NO stronger! if i were you id get another rs box or rebuild yours

I agree. And, as you've found this diesel box 'cheap', have you asked yourself "Why is it cheap?" It's probably cheap for a very good reason!

Diesel box will appear stronger due to the longer ratio's. The power is laid down more progressively, which is bound to be a little kinder to the transmission.

However, as others have said, a 'cheap' gearbox can't be a good gearbox really.

My old white RST had a Ł20 diesel gearbox in for a year with NO issues. So you might be lucky mate. It was only mildly tuned though with chip, 14psi etc

i have the Torque steer problem but im not running an lsd box just standard 16i box when it comes on boost it chucks me all over the place but im running a cossie blower which dont help the situation i would be investing in an lsd box tbh

You can pick up a good lsd box for around Ł100 and they drive so much better with them

the reason diesel gearboxes are cheap is becouse they so easey to find,how meany escort vans did ford make? far more than the rs turbo!! i paid 40Ł for my dieasl gearbox 4 yrs ago, and its still going strong on my rs, similar gear ratios aswell, im happy with it!

My RS came with a Diesel box and the gears are so much longer it's crap, you may gain top speed but the acceleration you loose is not worth it and like I said earlier torque steer is crazy if your runnig any sort of power!
I now have a S2 box (LSD) and it's much nicer!
