Buying an S2
Hi Guys,
I'm new to this forum as i'm on the verge of buying an S2 (I have someone holding it for me until I sell my car).
It is H-reg, Red, completely standard, 84,000 miles. Interior is immaculate and exterior almost perfect (couple of scratches to sort out, etc).
They want £3000 but I will offer them around £2750 to start with. Is this price about right for what i'm getting?
Cheers.
P.s. my car for sale http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW. £3750 ono.

if its almost perfect and the milage is that low...i would say your on the verge of being laffed off!
coupld of things to check...like the battery trey! these are a bitch to sort! and a tad expensive! also check the tyres for un even wear! ,and of corse its a 14yr old car so check everywhere for rust! inner arches ,sills and such like.....
have you heard the car running? start it up from cold and see if you can hear any knocking and see if there any smoke...which might indicate valve stem seals! if you can drive the car from from a few seconds after ya started it up and drive it till its warm....give it a boot full and see if there any smoke after the turbo has boosted!
other than that! its normal things like leccy windows work....battery light dont come on when u have the blowers on,windows working, wipers on and and lights on!
happy buying!
ps....i wish i had this forum when i brought my car! cus i would not have brought it!

But yeah it's owned by the husband of someone I work with so I have had a full check over it and a test drive. It's ok on all the things you mentioned (no rust, electrics, etc all fine) but first time I started it up there was a fair bit of smoke.
Are these cars really that expensive to maintain? Also what is the fuel consumption like for a standard RS?
Thanks for the help

Oh right i get you. Well I get the impression that the person i'm buying from doesn't really know what they are worth so there's no harm in trying my luck. No matter what they are going to sell it to me, its just a case of agreeing a price.
It had it's turbo replaced 2 years ago and it cost them £500 so hopefully it won't die anytime soon.
I look forward to owning one... just gotta sell me Punto
