Default Mains Bearings

Can pre 88 bearings be used on a post 88 crank? The only difference i can see is that pre 88's have grooves for oil down the middle of the bearings???
Cheers

I've always used ACL Racing bearings and they only list one for the RS turbo which is grooved.

i dont think its to do with the year as much as the model of car, a xr3i may have both upper and lower grooved bearing, a turbo should have a smooth lower shell for extra surface area and a grooved upper for oil feed.
