Default S2 Escort- Can you use a MK5/6 master cylinder?

I have just scrapped my Mk6 N plate 1.4cvh Escort. Before it went I stripped the master cylinder and servo from the car.

As the peddle on my S2 dailey driver has always been very poor and I find getting in it from a modern car borderline dangerous. The brakes (standard all round bar 2wd cossie front discs) do work, it just seems that a hell of alot of force is needed to get them to do anything.

Can anybody tell me if the mk6 setup will fit, and will be any improvement as the brakes were always very good on that car. The bolt patterns all look the same and the servo is a fair size bigger.

Has anybody got any suggestions on a potential problem with the standard brakes that are causing this? I dont loose any fluid so I presume the seals in the master cylinder are fine. Perhaps its the servo? Does anybody know how to test it or common faults with it?

Thanks in advance.

Are the back brakes adjusted properly? That makes such a difference to pedal feel and response, and takes just minutes to do.

Other than just a quick check to ensure there was meat on the shoes no! I thought they were self adjusting? Does the mechanism stick on them? I will pull the drums off for a check though just in case!

Many thanks for the advice!
