Running far too rich...?
hi, just getting to the last stages of finishing my project - mk 6 Escort with full S2 running gear, but have hit a problem with the running side of things, it starts up fine and runs well for about 10 seconds then starts to run lumpy and when you rev it, it seems to be choking itself with to much fuel. It kicks out quite a bit of black smoke and you can smell petrol in the fumes. Just wondered if anyone can shed some light on this, the engine is fully rebuilt and everything is the same stuff as an S2 except the fuel pump, which is an in tank uprated Fiesta turbo item for the extra pressure needed.... ? ?
Any help, much appreciated.

it is impossible to see mixure without wide band lambda. You can make mixure little leaner with CO screw and fuel pressure actuator but without wb lambda cannot know nothing.

Too much fuel pressure by the sounds of it.
Try disconnecting the 5th injector first, as these can fail, and stick open, but yes it defo will need sorting properly emissions wise.

Thanks for the replys, i think the problem could be that the pump might not be suppling enough pressure because the standard EFi (Fiesta) turbos run at 3 bar standard and the MFi's run at 5 bar, maybe even though it's an uprated pump it might not be upto the job of getting enough pressure there... ? ?
If anyone knows if my suspicious are correct and any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
