Default running hot ??

hi everyone, hope you can help me with yet another problem !

got the s2 out today for the first time this year, then set off to a friends garage for a new clutch to be fitted. ready for the summer or so i thought !

got to garage about 5 miles away in steady"ish traffic(about 10 mins at 30mph ). had fan on(works fine) constant with it being a hot day.

got the car on the ramp, popped the bonnet & mechanic noticed the engine, engine bay, rad etc where extremely hot, i know it will get hot but it felt like you could fry an egg in there!!
temp guage had not even hit the norm (still in the cold solid white area on the guage)

then noticed a hissing noise somewhere around the nearside top area around the rad.
system felt too pressurised/dangerous to remove header tank cap.
had problems last year with the alloy header tank leaking but had it repaired (could still be the problem)

left the car untill further inspection tomorow.

i have recently fitted new water pump, lower thermostat, flushed the system.
running stage 1 msd, piper cam, grs front mount with kenlowe on the rad. permenant fan switch. top end rebuild less than a 1000 miles ago
the water and oil are clean & do not appear to be mixing, no sludge.

any ideas why its running so hot ??

getting really pissed off with the car & cant trust the reliability. ive restored it, pampered it, loved it, now all i want to do is fucking drive it !!!

thanks for any help

i would first try to find out why the gauges is not working correct? You really need to know what temps your running. Maybe it's just your idea because the cars get extremely hot on a nice sunny day. Then it's no probs to fry your egg First time i also was suprised by the temps of the front end.
