Default Thermostat housig to the block!

Good afternoon,

Basically snapped a bolt in the block from the thermostat housing, tried drilling it out, made it worse, is there anything i can do to rectify the situation, other than change the block? The bolt is near enough flush with the block, with just a little hole that i tried drillin, but wanted to see if you guys knew of anything before i end up throwing a paddy!

Basically expecting the worst but any help would be great!

Cheers,

Dumpy

Firstly, the Thermostat housing bolts to the head, which is bad, but not as bad as if it was the block.

I reckon you will end up taking the head off and taking it somewhere to be sorted. I guess worse case scenario they would be able to drill the remains of the bolt out then fit a larger insert, but then if its a standard head, you might be best to just buy a second-hand head.

i used what i thinks called an "easy out" to remove a snapped temp sender unit. it looks like a taperd drill bit with a reverse thread, as u screw it in anti-clockwise it grips and unscrews the remaing thread.

worked for me without removing anything so could be you ticket to an easy way out!

Kev, I think the problem is drilling the bolt and with the head being Alloy makes the drill bit likely to wander and screw the head up.

I know that from when I tried to remove a siezed idle screw from my Cossie Throttle Body.

If it's not deep, they tend to come out rather easily with a MIG welder.
