Default Gearbox/clutch Noise

When my car is ticking over, i can hear a slight rattle from the gearbox area, when i put my clutch in, the noise goes, ive been told that it may be the release bearing and that its nothing to worry about?
Is this true? Or should i be making an appointment with the sperm bank to raise some money for a new one!!
