Default External wastegate

I found a mag from oz at work the other day a read an article about internal and external wastegates. After reading it I'm considering an external 1 on my series 2. HAs anybody got 1 and what do you think? It's still running mfi so will it work or not? does anybody know whether I can buy a t-piece for it or if I gotta get 1 made up? I've seen that s2 in peformance ford from scotland with 1 but that was runnin a focus RS block and efi! I want a T-piece to same as that!

The Scottish RST is Simon's (sas), IMO an External Wastegate is not really needed under the level that he is at. Maybe not even then. Unecessary complication for you, especially if you are still restricted by MFi.

I made my T-piece and exhaust down pipe at work which took me around 25 hours of welding and machining so it would be expensive to get made,
and as Christian says above, you have to pushing the bundarys of development for it to be of benifit compared to the internal wastegate.

In the magazine there is also a complete guide to wastegates and whether internal or external are better! The conclusion from it was an external 1 because the flap is that much bigger ands the exhaust gases escape quickly thus reducing them being sucked back through the compressor wheel and controlling the boost level better! I can't remember properly I'll bring the mag home from work and check what I've said!

The theory is reasonably true, but on a low/moderately powered car, an External Wastegate just isn't needed.

Mine's running 350bhp on an Interally 'gated turbo and it's only now I am considering going to an External 'gate.

You have to take into account of what size turbo you are using.
If you are using a small turbo with high boost pressure you would require a large external wastegate.
If you have a large turbo you proberly dont need a large wastegate!

You have to think how boost pressure you want. In respect of how much exhaust gas you want to harness or to bypass the turbine wheel.

Proberly doesnt make sence!

My application is a small turbine housing combined with 2.0l engine = lots of exhaust gas to block up the turbo so fitted a large wastegate.
