Depends which MK5 box, the BC type MK5 boxes have the same mounting point as a MK3.

What benefit would there be though?

Ah thats fair do's i suppose. They are getting rare now

Don't think they are mate, the MK3's have very short ratio's, especially the S1 box. On the plus side though it wont scream its tits off at 70 on the motorway

Yeah i supose, but i`d rather it was quick from 0-100 than top end speed, as i`m running 1.9cvh-twin 40`s and 4-branch

nope only if you change the outer casing fella as the mk3 g/b mount is on the casing itself where as the series 2 box uses the cradle to bolt it down if that make any sense

all depends where about your power range is from fella as reving it you could be making it slower if it peaks lower down the revs i might have got that wrong tho

think i will just get that 1.8 zetec box and try it, worst thing cud happen is change it again lol, its a 5-speed XR3 box in it the now, but it aint sellecting 5th and reverse.... cant be arsed stripping it, rather just fit another box, even if i get a mk4 box and change the casing.....

IIRC you also have to have some metal work cut out of the inner cross member to get these to fit.

I'm sure thats what Jano had to do

Possibly, im pretty sure the casing on a MK5 is identical to that of a MK3 though, plus the fact the MK3 has no cross member underneath the box

To clear up, only the MTX75 conversion requires a little work to the inner wing/chassis.

The Mk5 box is a direct fit depending on what clutch you are using.

IB5 gearboxes fit straight in. Stronger than a BC box

In am mk3? Are you sure mate?

Mk3's don't have the support arm that goes under the box like a mk4.

Oh, mk3... What's one of them?

I'm sure the IB5 box has extra mountings on it. It's been a long time since I saw the difference between a BC and an IB5... Damo will know, he remembers stuff like that.

The splines are all the same size.

The IB5 is a later version of the BC box, almost identical in appearnce. You will know it when you see one
