Default Do dumpvalves work????

Thought this might be fun.

Do dumpvalves prolong the life of the turbo on an Escort RST running standard management and standard turbo running about 15psi of boost

Depends on the application. On a sub 30psi RS Turbo no. On a T4 equipped RS500 or small turbo Escort Cossie yes.

You can't make a sweeping statement across the board as it varies from car to car

Additionally MFi cars - no. Big power EFi cars - generally yes.

a think that the question that you have asked is to broad
a think the general rule is that they are only needed on high boosting engines 30psi+ like Oranoco said, but then you'll find that even people running this spec dont use them

you deffo wont need 1 for an mfi rst running 15psi

Would turbo stall (Chatter) harm the turbo when running 15psi.

Thinking about the blades having to stop all of a sudden would it eventually damage the bearing and shaft?

Why would one work on a RS500 / small EsCos but not others? Dont quite understand that. Could understand the RS500 with its big T4 but it seems a bit contradictory you putting a Small EsCos on there too?

no one can answer your question as they have not been proven to work or not to work

stu as said before that turbo chatter is bad for a turbo and he as even seen it snap the shaft in half and louder the chatter the more damage its doing

So chatter is bad for the turbo then. I'd assume you still get turbo stall on the MFi setup but just don't hear it due to the system it's running.

So a dump valve may prolong the life of the turbo providing its working correctly.

Do rally cars have a dump valve with running high boost etc to keep the turbo up to speed?

I think rally cars use re-circulating dump valves.

Not at all mate. If you know how a small turbo Escort Cossie works you will know they should have the DV left in place as removing them upsets the air flow sensor as it can't tell which direction the air is being passed over it.

They have a plastic recirculating DV from the factory iirc. I'm sure a friendly Escort Cossie owner can fill us in though

had a d/v on for years and then visited SCS and was told to throw it away so gave it a try and the difference was amazing holds boost between gear changes and doesnt try and stall. Thats on a stg3 hybrid with modified fins, depends on application i guess

So do 3 doors IIRC as a mate turned his round and got the same effect as the wastegate opening...............did it for a giggle on a super mint 3 door to piss his wife off for a few days
