Default I can't decide

between buying an s2 cabriolet and non-cabby. Either way it will be rs turbo powered.

I see summer approaching and think cabby. But then I think about how they would perform on a road and think about how the cabriolet is heavier. This is starting to do my head in now Any opinions will help I hope. Cheers

buy a normal rs turbo. in the summer all you need to do is open the windows and the sunroof and your nearly there anyway.

My budget won't stretch to an s1. If I were to get one it would have to be mint. I know that I won't be rushing into buying anything. I've paid the price before

Tbh I should've bought an s1 when I had the chance last year. I even posted on here saying I was going up to visit it.

First time I saw it (after creaming my pants over it) the little plastic thing holding the clutch cable in broke. I visited it the second time and it wouldn't start. The owner was on holiday and his mate didn't know how to fix it. A week later I had been taken out in a quick r5gtt and I forgot about fords

Well the first 5 was a total impulse purchase. I hadn't been out in a turbo'd motor before. It blew me away. I ignored the stupid bodykit and thought I could put the car back to standard so I bought it. Anyway I blew the piston rings trying to impress a mate trying to get him to buy an r5 as well. It worked but the car paid the price

Some more problems occured so I swapped it for a renault 5 gordini. Essentially a renault 5 but an older model. It was awesome and old skool but I didn't have enough cash to restore it how I wanted so I decided to start on something fresh and make sure I had enough cash to finish what I started.

So here I am trying to decide. I'm sure it'll be an s2 Btw how much do cabriolet's suffer becuase of the extra weight and lack of a hard roof? Cheers

The best way to be in life mate, for sure!

Not really sure about how the suffer, shouldnt have thought they handle aswell cos the rigidity isnt there like an RST, couldnt really tell you about the weight, IIRC it's not 'THAT' much heavier, but dont quote me on that!

Personally i'd go for a proper Series 2, just get a sensible one for decent money and you'll be fine, just dont get attracted to silly mods and shiney wheels again!

Try www.autotrader.co.uk loads on there mate!

Cabriolet shells don't handle as well. They flex alot more and you will get scuttle shake, in some cases resulting in the paint on the scuttle panel cracking due to flex. I've seen this on more than one RS Turbo conversion.

Buy a tin top mate, it's a proper RS and will handle so much better. The only way to get a cabby to handle properly is to have the shell braced. That's expensive and will look 'orrible !!!

Well that's settled that then. I live near some countryside roads and i'd like to make the most of them tbh. As for going down the road of bodykits, there's no chance of that now

I'm building a 1700 Volvo Turbo R5 if you wanna buy it when i'm finished, I'm too interested in my Fords now.
Get an RS though not an RS cabby, they look so much meaner and obviously the real deal.
