Have just had myne repaired, did itmyself so didnt cost anything though! I took where the rust bubbles were back to metal, drilled to get rid off rust, had to dimple roof for fibreglass to stick. The rubbed down, then filled and rubbed down. Then primered and rubbed... eveentually painted!lol
As for how long it will ast - quite a while hopefully!

My previous S2 did, quite badly! Check this out:

Your pretty much guarantee'd that if you have rust bubbles behind your sunroof, down the back will look like the above! In fact that one in the pics above didn't have much sign's of it going either! just show's you!

My current car is clean...I remember when I bought it, opening the sunroof right out, it was like new

Did you happen to remove the sunroof and look right down the back of the roof? It may look like the above!

You cannot repair it unless you get a brand new roof with no sun-roof aperture

fact!

Spot on. Condensation in this area does it, and rain and water going down in there. Fords left the panel bare in here.

if this is a gen qoute, then i know why!

all the original painted cars would rust quicker, the reason is ,at the time of spraying, the suspension medium within the paint mix was thinner and polymer free,(not like modern paints),
therefore, metalics, rusted quicker because of natural electro-corosion ,where the metal particles that create the metallic effect would oppose each other causing corrosion, within the surface metal it was adhered to,
in the 70s when everyone bought silver motors, they all rusted in weeks.,cause of the shitey paint mix, then they stopped buying silver cars, hence the new phase of silverman ship, now their much better,

but fuck,
lately every ones got a silver car,im sick of silver,(mercury grey is ok) its just bloody silver, next time your out ,count the silver cars on the road.

mental!

my old mercury grey S2 went at the back of the sunroof . dont think you can really do anything but change the roof for a long term repair . i didnt fancy that so i scrapped it . wonder if its a mk4 fault as i cant remember seeing many mk3s rotting there just everywhere else

around the sunroof has been primed cos the old sunroof was siliconed in as it tended to suck out at speed... an we scratched the paint getting the bloody stuff off
