Full steel bottom end, when do i need it? and what to get?
i am currently trying to sort out the spec of my engine and so i need some advice.. this engine build is a learning process for me as i am not skilled in tuning cars, i know the basic stripdown and rebuild of engines, but i haven't taken it much further before..so the basic skills and some more specific is in place, but still need lots and lots of advice..
the engine is being built so it can take a lot of abuse and power(hopefully). i want to build it so it can take around 300 hp(in time) and i want parts that have a good value for money ratio, not shite parts but not overpriced stuff if you know what i mean.. could also need advice on where to get the parts from(in the uk as prices in norway can't be compared).
so i was wondering, how far up the hp and rpm scale can the standard crank shaft be used? assuming it is in good condition and fully balanced..
what make of con rods and low comp forged pistons to use? where to get it?
if you need any more info from me as i'm sure you do please ask..

I *think* the standard crank is good for more power than that for that power you'll want steel rods, farndon perhaps? - You can get them from Burton Power. As with pistons, low comp cossie racing are usually a good option. Again Burton sell them.
That's just a guide - I don't know much either !

ok, so the original crank is good enough for these powerlevels?
@tony turbo, you got the power levels i was wondering about, any possibility you could give me your bottom end specs or are they secret?

especially if you have a steel crank? also interested in makes of rods and pistons.. compression ratio with the pistons used and so on.. if you want to keep some of the spec a secret i completely understand..

thats great tony.. at last i got the crank question out of the way.. have been thinking about that for some time now..
btw: do you know if christian&becky is running standard crank too? just thought i'd ask.. similar power in his engine too isn't it?

Adam - Don't worry about it mate, we tried for ages to get some and couldn't get them anyway unless we got X amount of people to group buy them into re- making them

Yeah, they are a good piston, made much better than the Cosworth ones were and not alot of difference in price too. And they can be custom made so as long as you know the dimensions you need you are laughing.
