Default What Engine?

Just brought a S1 escort and to be honest I've been told so many different things about what to do with the Engine i dont know where to start.
I'm looking for over the 200bhp mark but would like to have reliability with it.
I'm told go with the ZVH low comp bottom, uprated Head and a gear box to handle it.
I can have a gear box sorted with out to many problems it's what direction to go with the engine.
What's the done thing with not to much fuss?
Suggested companies?

Not that far......230bhp ish. Is there a limit before I start looking at serious pound notes????
Everyone I have spoke to seem to suggest the ZVH. Any more info on that?
Why the ZVH?

CVH!

At least it will rev properly and deliver power in a nice smooth and progressive way rather than a huge gearbox smashing torque spike. Unlike the ZVH/Zetec.

So true!

Before I were to decide where my dosh was going, Id make sure and have a blast in the cars that are going to influence my decision.

Get along to a PF meet and blag a ride in cars with different power plants and take it from there.

Davey of course you can mate, Im 100% with you on that statement .
A properly spec'd engine be it a ZVH or a 16V will rev[read] make peak power high in the rev range

I remember Paul Ripleys little rapid Fiesta Z-TEC Turbo......I'm not looking for that sort of power it just seemed like the way to go.
What about if it ever came to selling the car, will people be bothered if it had changed from CVH to ZVH?

aghhhh

Oh how did i miss this!

Lordy lordy lordy!!

Get a ZVH mate, or even a full Zetec. Ask yourself this question: How Much!

Paul R's whole engine cost him just over 2.5K, now i bet to build a bullet proof CVH you'd be looking at the for a all steel bottem end (i will stand corrected if i'm wrong!).
