Default Head bolts tightening sequence and torques

Has anyone got the tightening sequences and torque settings for my small Turbo EscortCos head bolts, undergoing a head gasket operation. If anyone has a page out of a manual or somewhat can they email me it.

thanks guys

Karl Norris showed me how to tighten head bolts on my old rst. Basically do them in stages and leave 10 mins between. Also put a drop of oil on the threads and either side of the washer to help.

Stage 1 = 20nm then rest
stage 2 = 40nm then rest
Stage 3 = 45-50nm then rest
Stage 4 = 180 degrees

Job done.

Paul.

When you tighten up head bolts, i know you do them to 45-50 nm, but i dont understand why you have to tighten them up another 180degrees

its always baffled me I just work to the FT rule

And another thing when tightening head bolts you always work in a outward spiral from the centre. Correct me if im wrong

cheers

the extra 180 degrees is not rependant upon torque, and actually stretches the bolts, this is why they are not reusable. the initial torque tighening is basically to make sure that they have been tightened sufficiently to allow the further 180 degrees to stretch them,, no point just getting them finger tight then doing 180 degrees as this will not compres the head to the block enough.

All this information is available on the graham goode website.

Its called tips from the pits or perhaps FAQ, i've read it before on there, it also gives the oil specs for gearbox, diff etc. Loads of good basic info.
