Stone chips / light scratches
Hi guys, I know its everyones worst nightmare when you discover a new scratch or chip on your pride of joy - even if it is inevitable. I wondered what the general concensus was on treating chips and the like? I have original pantwork on the Cos so have always shyed away from any kind of re-spray. I have heard both good and bad things about companies such as chips-away so what do you guys do?
Cheers

Dont go to any chipsaway people! The car will look worse!
Wait till it's bad enough to deserve a coat of fresh paint......then take it to the best bodyshop in your area! MONEY NO OBJECT always helps, when its your pride and joy!

Its Mallard green, and I am based in south wales - although Mark Shead has my car at the moment. Dont really want to go down the full body respray route. I am only talking about a few light scratches and one or two stone chips - but they are enough to catch my attention every time I see the car

I have had a baaaaaaad experience with 'chips away', there may be other mobile places who can touch in some small areas and do a real good job. ...ask for examples of previous work.
I have been told by a few bodyshops that the paint the 'mobile' places use tend to be of very low quality anyway, and doesn't tend to give a good finish.
Personally i would wait also untill they are bad enough for a panel to be done, although i believe that metallics are difficult to match (reflective nature of the metal flakes) so a full panel may be better .......

"Light" scratches can be flat and polished, I AM a SMART repairer (though not Chipsaway )
As a rule I wont touch panelwork, for reasons stated above, bumpers etc fine, alot of smart repairers will paint panels but thats up to them...
Chips on bonnets etc are a different process, by "filling" these with paint you simply hide the white dots and colour them green, cant do ANY harm doing this as no preperation is requiired just "cleaning"
Its a perfect option other than repainting IMO, though wont last forever, but ideal if you simply want to wait a while till you collect some more... which you willl

listen to the advice of Damo, sounds like he knows what he is talking about rather than trying to make some money !
Please don't do 'chips away' if you love your car !!!!!

Damo is spot on!!!
DO NOT GO TO CHIPS AWAY!!!!!!!!
I had a small dent on the bonnet of mine just after I bought it my escos - the rest of the car was mint! So I took it to this local dent place, they knocked the dent out but bent the threads on the inside right hand side of my bonnet.
I did not notice until the car was home ( the bonnet is high in that corner)
When i took it back he said he could not have done that when looking at where he was whacking my bonnet it was obvious that it was him!!!!!
