In another year i will be 21 which means my insurance will fall a bit and I will also finish my training at work, this means an increase in pay too

I thought I'd just want to ask the experts on here:
Firstly, will I actually be able to insure an Escort Cosworth?

Lastly, I do 60 miles a day every other week so will need a reliable car. In standard form is the Cosworth a reliable car?

I'm asking just so I will have incentive to saving as I am terrible with money lol.

Any Cosworth mechanically, standard wise are fine and when the power has been upped as long as its been done properly and parts uprated accordinly theres no reason why they should be unreliable.

Are you looking at BT or ST?

mate standard and reasonably modded cosworths are usually very reliable. It is only when we start messing about with the damn things squeezing more and more power out of it that they cause you grief. If I was to run a cosworth for everyday use, I would personally opt for a stage 3 (330bhp) setup, nice and simple and still got some power there if you want to give her a right footing.

If they have been looked after, they treat you very well.

insurance will still be stupidly expensive for a cossie a 21 but it depends if you dont mind paying it!!

i was 21 in march and they were quoting 3-4grand for a cossie!!!!

i settled for a focus rs to fill the time

if u really wanna ford i would settle for a decent focus rs or an st. or if u wanna go quick go for somthing like a GT skyline.
the cossy's are reliable but nobody hu drives 22,000 miles a year in one says that. when i had mine on the road i tricked myself into thinking it was reliable but then i realised every weekend i was underneath it, and looked at the money i had spent. i was abit shocked. great fun, but nobody buys a YB for reliablity.

I have owned mine since February 2008 and can honestly say it has never let me down other than when the battery in the alarm fob died and the immobiliser kicked in at a show. I had to replace the engine mounts but considering they were original, didn't bother me too much. It's covered 109k without a rebuild, sounds sweet and drives mint! It's also running stage 3 which is a nice road spec IMO but more can be had and be just as reliable

They are as reliable as you want them to be, ie look after them and there is no problem.
I did 190 miles yesterday in my 170,000+ bottom end cossie sapph, and would not hesitate to do any distance at all in 100% total confidence.
When I first got the car I had of course to fix all the running problems caused by neglect and previous owners who couldn't afford to run the car.
The head gasket blew on way to a meet, but still managed to nurse it home 20 miles with regular topping up, even though water was dribbling from block!!
Mine has never broke down, no reason they should at all.
I have just added a towbar to mine.
It's not unusual to do 1000 miles some weeks, if busy, but others as little as 300.
As to BT or ST, depends if you want to tune, most do as the escos is 4wd the boxes become the weak point over 350bhp, so a stage 3 is ideal, and really nice, will not affect reliability, old age and things wearing out will, 99.9% can be prevented with maintenance, and even that isn't a lot, and they are easy to work on.
