rally Indonesia carlos sainz escort cosworth 1996
Hallo Karl
heres a question for you.
Repsol Escort colours
Reg: BK 872 RI
do you know where the Carlos Sainz escos was prepared. TF is also looking for info for me.
A Colleague of mine is going to rebuild the car back to original spec and would like to know as much history as possible
For a photo, look in Graham Robsons book, Boreham, page 238.
cheers
kenny.

Kenny,
It was a boreham car by IIRC.....what info do you need?
It will have had active transmission....being boreham grp 'a' cars i'd hazard a guess to say they would be using MS95 boxes.....
Same cars were driven by Carlos and Bruno Thiry....

the question wasn't worded very well, if anyone can help then that would be great. I said hello Karl, as he does have a great interest and knowledge about these cars.
Ian
I believe this car was one of only 4 built with active transmission, but I am not an expert by any means and am probably wrong.
Its also possible that this is the car that Sainz won the 1996 Indonesian Rally in.
some original docs/photos would be good. Was the car originally prepared by Ras? would anyone know somebody who used to work for the company?
Someone did tell me that G Spooner engineering did work on the car every year.
The only photos that I could post here at the moment would be of the shell. The car is completely stripped for cleaning/repainting in original Repsol livery.
kenny.

Hi Kenny,
malcolm wilson aka m-sport did the ford motor company WRC escorts
prior to that ford had Ring Auto Sport (R-A-S) running things,
but they only ran group a escort cosworths and some kit car rs2000's
built originally by Gordon Spooner's G-S-E company.
GSE knew how to build a proper rally car,as they built Gwyndaf Evans
championship winning car for Ford.
its the chassis number
you need and it checking with UK DVLA and it may show its original
Id.
I know the guy who bought R-E-D rallied a Sainz escort cosworth
but the car looked nothing like it originally did, like so many works
cars.
RAS took over Boreham's running of the World Championship
and all the cars under construction went to
them, the guy i know who worked for R-A-S and M-L-P as well as
M-sport only on escort cosworths and WRC cars
probably is the most qualified to talk about these cars.
i will send you his email address and you can ask away as he is a friendly
chap and said he doesn't mind helping with any questions

Kenny/Karl...
Just going off the reg, then yes it is the car that sainz won in the indonesian rally 96 in, I cant find anything on that actual car though....plenty around it autraila 1996 etc......
1996 was too early for it to be a Malcolm Wilson Motorsport Car, the works drivers in that year Carlos Sainz and Bruno Thiry were under contract to boreham directly so i'd doubt the car was built by any one other than boreham....even if another team was involved, the cars would have been built to the Boreham spec......
pics of the cars in question....
