Default Turbo spool up time

Hi all, I've got a big turbo cosworth engine in my car running stage 1, its a standard turbo but i have just fitted an electronic boost controller and the difference is really noticable. Before i was hittin 14psi at around 5000rpm now it hits it at 3500rpm. i was just wondering what kinda revs everyone hits full boost at? Are there any easy ways to reduce the time it takes to spool up, i like having it rev freely all the way to 7000rpm so i dont really want to downsize my turbo. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Alex

my old setup being on a UT T38 and greys used to be able to give me full boost of about 36psi by 3400rpm.

i was shocked at how savagely the boost came in.

for me this was an awesome setup for a road car - im just hoping the new engine and spec (if i dont break the car over the coming weeks) will be alot better

i only have a puny t28 hybrid on mine - this produces its full 1.2bar boost at under 2500rpm, but runs out of puff by 5500rpm

It sounds like your car had a fault before you fitted the boost controller, a T34.48 should be on full boost by 3500RPM easily....could depend on who's chip the car is running as well?

My escort was running a T34.48, and with msd's mapping it was on 25psi well under 3000RPM

I'm glad you have said this, as I have just bought a T38 UT spec, and everything I have read about them people have said they are laggy and make crap torque ... Who mapped your engine, and would you say its a big/slight improvement over a T34.48/63?

Did you ever get it dyno'd or rolling roaded?

Wil, i never had it on a rolling road to prove its power

it was all taken care of by Steve Scott, and yes it was so much stronger than my T34 ever gave me all the way thru the rev range, you could actually feel were the T34 used to give up slightly.

the T38 just felt like it got stronger as the revs increased

- Thats great figures for a T4, where does it start making boost? My T4 saff is a mare' to drive, but have not really had a chance to give it a proper shakedown and set-up yet

which spec of the T4 did you decide to go for in the end - after all the research/time and testing etc?

Ha you have got me worried now. The ECU i got came with the chip already in it. I just took the lid off it and it says on it: 270bhp Cosworth on a sticker and on the chip, made in singapore. No specific make on it as far as i can tell. I was thinking of getting a stage 3 chip from MSD anyway. Is there anything else that could be making it take so long to spin up? Thanks

Alex, you could possibly have an air leak, does it hold the boost once it achieves it?

Yeah spins up to around 14psi depending on outside temp and holds it lovely, it did this without the boost controller before, it just does it a lot faster now. Just not as fast as everyone else it seems!

I hade this problem on my escort. Didn`t find any air-leak, but changed the plenum gasket anyway. When I removed the plenum I saw half of the gasket was missing.
Now everything is

Miles away mate. Poor Jamile, it's been sat on his ramps for the best part of 6 months ... Think I owe him a few beers .

Just loads to do, finish the engine build, fit the hydrualic clutch, and loads of bits like poly bushes, coil-overs, big brakes etc etc etc.... The main hassle is I need bits to finish the engine build but still waiting for them

I am hoping it will be running and ready to run-in by friday latest ... Didn't realise you lived so close mate, saw your car parked on the drive today, looked
