Is it essential to have the nut securing the front section to the rear section of propshaft as when I removed the propshaft to take the gearbox out it was missing? The splined part of the rear section does slide into the front section a long way so I doubt it could come out - is the nut there for another reason? If so can they be bought seperately as Ford tell me you can only buy a complete propshaft!

well mate as with most things on the cars things are there for a reason. I have mine on mine as im painting those bits to do a resto, must admit when i took it off i did wonder what function it offered as doesnt appear to do much but as stated its there for a reason......only thing is the reason is the answer to your question
