cozzie driver, whizzing down the road sideways clipping kerbs and then
driving on a puncture for 2 miles,i reckon you will be ok with light alloy
also a rally driver i spoke to reckoned some of the latest light alloy
speedlines weigh so little and are so much stronger than wheels of old they save money and use them now

Out of interest would anyone like to go halves on a set of 12 of these 18" mag alloys? How much would these be each with 40% off mike

From the research I did.. Magnesium wheels suffer when they lose the paint/coating and become weathered and/or if the wheel has been tampered with.. as with age they go brittle.. so whilst these wheels where ok over ten years ago they have aged and been refurbed, welded, scraped, dinged etc and generally had a hard life through motorsport. A proper WRC wheel will have a FIA date stamp so the wheel only had to last ex-amount of time before being binned. I was told by a mag wheel repairer that the early mag wheels where banned from motorsport due to constant cracking. Was also told by someone at M-Sport that some had foam inside incase of loosing air on stage.. denoted by a silver circle sticker.. which some of my ex M-sport OZ mags had.
I would never buy older mag wheels again unless they where either new or unrefurbished in very good condition. and unless you have a race/rally team budget to be able to replace the wheels instead of repairing them its a bit risky. Hence why I have 9 OZ mags now
Mag wheels barely bend as they are so strong so if hit hard enough they with crack instead.. Anyone remember the pics of damaged superleggas rarely bent but loads of pics of cracks and snapped spokes etc The weakest point seems to be inner outer rim where cracks apear.
Speedlines seem to be the best mag wheels these days just don't like the styles in 18" and wouldn't fit 19's

When i said not many Kerbs I meant in comparison to what a road going car will experience. And if you look at all the people interested in aquiring a set on this thread, they are primarily ROAD GOING cosworths. Not sure if many of them will see an airfield either, so not sure on your point there.
My point is they are not that strong when introduced sideways into a kerb...........and people with ROAD going cars will need to appreciate the need for spares as a kerbed alloy wheel is far more serviceable than a cracked magnesium one

to a hard life, bear this in mind if buying seconhand
i would not pay the extra for new magnesio speedlines
when the light alloy ones will do fine, and would not want repaired
rally wheels on a high performance car like my escort cosworth.
edited to add........
yep most people on here with escort cosworths do not go tarmac
rallying with them, hence why i can't see the point of buying magnesio versions when light alloy would do,unless you have loads of money to
spend or are following the leader

I chased Speedline UK again today, but still no news from the Eyetalians . They're going to poke them in the ribs and see what happens, but "think" that it may be a non-starter, by the lack of instant response.
The Magnesium 2021 type posted up by JBrayley above IS definitely available though... . Minumum order of twelve - £2000 per set of four delivered 8x18 ET15.

Spring rates are 60 N/mm. The kit doesn't have a part number, as it was custom made by Ohlins for the Escort. As you rightly say, Ohlins don't do an off the shelf kit, but if you have the right contacts, they will custom make the bodies to suit what-ever application you want.
I would advise that you can't compare their spring rates or damper settings with any other manufacturers, as they rate them differently to others. I am being told that these are very good for the road on the lower settings, with a huge damping range in reserve for track. The Swedish Escort that finished fourth in the Gumball (that is also on the PF DVD) is fitted with the exact same set-up......
