i agree with s1rst, it just shows the owner has gone that little bit extra to keep the car as nice as poss, saying that i havnt got 1

i dont think keeping it in a carcoon makes the car worth any more money though... at the end of the day if the cars mint and at the right price it will sell wether its inside a condom or not

lol...

OK serious answer to your serious question

Not worth more in general mate (especially 2 grand )
but worth more to me as buyer- if I was looking to buy one in a crowded overpriced market place- and I suspect others too-to command top dollar the car has to be pukka as you know, now in my opinion I would take the EXACT SAME spec and condition of car that had been Carcooned over one that hadn't everytime, as to whether I would pay more-I'm not sure but the market for these is hard and I would suggest anything that makes the car more 'sellable' goes in it's favour

Ps I would hope to get more than 16k for mine when I sell it, 34k miles AND been stored in a carcoon for goodness sake - WOW

kl-mortiss Was that for me or monster?

I dont have a carcoon no mate as i cant get one in the garage, otherwise i would. Its in a heated garage though with a classic additions indoor cover over it. I can highly reccommend these covers if you cant have a carcoon.

What's the point in owning a car like this if you don't use it?
I love dring cars, not looking at them through a johnny.
I guess an Escort Cossy is like a knob.
Some people like to get out there a use them as they were inteded, and after a good session give them a clean.
Others prfer to wrap their knobs up and never use them, except to clean off the cobwebs.

Yes there are some nice dry days during winter and yes i would like to take it out on those days but i really cant be bothered to............

1) take it off the axle stands!
2) take it out of the carcoon!
3) have to then wash and polish it all over again!

And if i was looking to buy another, if it hadnt been stored properly then i wouldnt buy it!

No one is saying that mate, yours is a superb example and I would be the first to say that, what I am saying is in MY PERSONAL opinion, I would rather an Escos be stored in a carcoon, if all things being similar when buying one this would sway me to it, this is MY opinion and I would never suggest it makes one less desirable to anyone else, just me.
It's easy for people to jump on threads like this and change the original intent (not you Dave), no one is saying it makes one worth more or less, just a few of us would rather buy one thats been stored this way, thats all.
It takes all kinds-most people dont understand why you and I are beavering away in our garages polishing and cleaning bits that have no right being polished or cleaned, but we still do it

I am mate yes. Im sure im not alone on this one, but id say that because i dont use mine much, i enjoy and appreciate it alot more than if i used it everyday in all weathers. Personally i dont think it would have 'that spark' if i used it all the time. Ive probably done less than 1500 miles in a year in mine, but its been the best 1500 miles ive ever had.

After driving my 65hp diesel van around daily doing about 1500-2000+ miles a week, theres nothing like getting the cossie out for a run. On a nice dry day though of course!!!

Part of the enjoyment for me is getting the car out for a quick run every now and then, then spending the rest of the day cleaning it.

I can see why people keep them all garaged up. But september is still the summer ! I was using my zx6r and had some great days outside still in early october.
I can see people putting them away from say now till march. I just love using my bike and Gtir too much. I just clean it every sat morning to get the crap off.

And as for doing 1500miles a year in it, blimey, thats 62miles a week doing 24 weeks a year (may to sept), you must only go to a drive thru on a sunday!!

Lovely cars mind fellas ! !

Mine will only be away while the salt and grits on the road so about 3-4 months. I agree though mate, putting them away in september seems a bit extreme and i dont really see the reasoning behind this as its not like its always raining either.

Good thread this, got to agree with s1rst. Mines been away since end of sept. I use a push bike to and from work So when the car comes out the BUZZ is amazing Plus with 23k on the clock these motors have got to be looked after. A big up to the guys who do use theres all year round though, love seeing them on the road

I have the feeling some people are going to hate me for this.

I use mine all year round. In Germany. Where they cover the road in salt. In fact it's in my garage now, covered in the stuff as in the last 2 weeks I've done the best part of 700 miles on salty roads. & I do that regularly too. & have done for the whole time I've owned it (4 & 1/2 years). & what's more the salt is compacted onto the car by the mud that is all over the country B-roads I find myself using.

Admitedly I run the car through a car wash every other month, 1 of the 1s with a system that pressure washes the underside of the car but there isn't a single mark of rust on the bodywork (perhaps down to a good coat of wax) & the underside still doesn't show any untoward rust either, which is surprising, given how old it is.

It's nice to see people lavishing attention on their cars 'cos as a cynic it means that when mine's had it in about 10 years from now there will still be enough about so I can keep on driving a Cossie.

Thanks for being so careful of my next car...

I agree, but if it means affecting the condition/clenliness of a mint or near mint car, then you may as well buy a decent usuable one for Ł14k imo, rather than ''potentially'' de-value a Ł17k+ car.

Theres always going to be people with mint ones that use them in all weathers though and fair play to them.

I see your point mate and i too think that storing them for more than 3-5 months is a bit ott in my opinion and quite unnecessary.

got to admit I would be so tempted to drive mine if it was in my garage outside, but I keep mine 120 miles away from mine so is pretty safe from getting used.

Am missing it though.
