Ford actually did a 3 door escort with a cosworth engine. try doing a search on this site there may be some info on it.

yeah i was aware of that am just tryin to work out if its cheaper to modifiy a std 3 dr or to buy a bare cosworth shell.

well it depends who is modifying the std 3 dr shell
if your going to modify it yourself its going to be cheeper
if you get gartrac to do it Its gonna cost ŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁŁ's

you would need to put a tunnel in,modify the bulkhead etc
change loads of pickup points , if you look at a escort cosworth
under the bonnet then look at a sierra then a std 3dr escort
you can see what ford did when they converted it
then ask your self if its in your capability

They are totally different cars - don't even waste your time - the escos is basically a sierra floorpan - you would not be able to get it to work.

you can get an old sierra 4x4 shell and use parts of that depends on how good a job you want
we quoted a job on a mk4 escort and you would be looking 8000 to 10000 for a top job but you may as well but one done

anything is possible when you are talking fords.
my mate had one of the first fiesta cosworth mk 3's and he rallied it,
have seen mk1 escorts with 4x4 cosworth floorpan and mk2's
also escort vans, and a anglia but imo its easier just to buy
the real thing,unless your talented with fabrication and like
a challenge

As mentioned before: The floorpan, the suspension and many other parts are different from the non-Cosworth-Escort.


The question is just: Why do you want to do this? The Escort Cosworth only came as 3door!?

1. its a challenge
2. i thought it may wor out cheaper

could i not just cut the tunnel, rear diff mounting front and rear strut towers out of a sierra and weld it all back in to a std 3 door? thus creating a rear wheel drive shell with the correct mounting points for everything requrierd?

mate building a car up from a shell is hideously expensive, I was going to buy an escort shell and stick all my 2wd gear into it, but it actually works out much ( as in 8-10k!!!)cheaper to buy a half decent escort cossie in the first place, and work backwards. A decent cossie shell with ID is 3-4k, I got my fully working small turbo lux for 8K If you want a RWD one then its a much easier job to convert 4x4 into RWD just by swapping a few bits like gearbox/diff/props and driveshafts than hacking about an old rusty shell and trying to line up all the rusty sierra floor pan into it. You will also have a car worth somthing after you have finished with it, and could easily convert it back to 4x4 to sell on to keep its value.

im not fussed about the value after wards as i will have no intention of getting rid, the main reasons for asking the question is, i cant save money i just spend it so buy building one i can spend money on it when i hav it, and i want the challenge and satisfaction out of building the car myself.
