Default Brake Fluid....!

Hi,

After driving my Cossie for a while the brake light came on in the dash (And before you ask the hand brake was down... )
anyway checked the brake fluid level and it was just under the minimum - just want to know what type to put in as i have never had to top this up before.

Cheers - Raf

First you need to find out where the fluids going. And obviously dont drive it until you know. Check all lines and calipers.

Fluid depends on what brakes you have, mines dot 5.1 but have uprated brakes. Not sure what fluid is used as standard.

Hi mate,

I dont think its leaking just never needed 'topping up' (until now)
Having read the Cosworth manuals seems i need to use DOT4 brake fluid....?

the red light means there is a problem with the pressure, did the pedal feel any different from after the light came on?
does it do it now?
normally it's an indication that the fluid is too old or that it's getting too hot
there are countless threads about how to bleed the brakes if you have a search (just rememerb that you have to leed the rears first) and if it's getting too hot you might want to put some insulation around the abs pump and valve block

you shouldn't ever neeed to up up unless there is a leak - a low level means the ither the pads, discs or both are excessively worn and the calipers pistons are almost fully extended to take this into account - hence using more fulid - when you find whats worn and replace it, the fluid will rutrn to a normal level
