Gearboxes what are my options
I want to to know my options for a reliable gearbox to put behind a big power engine.
Should I go for a gear kit in my MT75 or look else where like skyline etc
All ideas and opinions welcomed
And are quaife diffs strong enough for 500-600 bhp with launches?
Cheers Mark

The Fixit kit seems to be the kit of choice for 500+ these days and should be even better once the uprated first gear is available. Think the quaife kit is ok for around 500 bhp but not sure about hard launches. Sure Mike R or someone will be able to give you more info.

I wouldn't be happy using the Quaife big tooth gearkit for anything above 450bhp, as they don't seem to last very well with 500+bhp (regularly breaking). If you look in last month's FF on page 191, Doug Stirling's Quaife gear kit has been in and out of his car with various problems SEVEN times in 30,000 miles and he has never abused it (no track days and only a few baby launches). My Fixit has done the same mileage and is used aggressively (on track) and hasn't been out at all yet...
Make of that what you will....
If Martin could do the Skyline box so it utilised the permanent 4x4 set-up of the existing drive train, then that would be my choice. Sadly, this isn't an option at the moment.

Sorry been busy, ditto above please Mike, Price and availibility.
One other question is it the gears that fail as I thought it was bearings and syncros.
Or are these kits designed to release loadings on the bearings, with different angles on gear teath etc
It seems to have been 3rd on the last couple of boxes that has either become noisy or failed.
Present power only 400+ but next build will be much more.
I would like to stay with 4x4 but I don't want to fix it every time I use it and I already have rear wheel fun in a 500hp RS500
Cheers Mark

Prices are on my website. Lead time is an issue at the moment and all I can say is 4-12 weeks. The next batch will also have the new first gear (which will bump the price up by a t.b.c. amount).
The Fixit kit uses OE bearings and syncro rings, so I don't know why the Quaifes keep failing, you're best off asking Bernie that question.
