It would be impossible to say, as reliability would be down to condition and how well modified.

If done properly, it will be as reliable as you would wish. If you buy a dog, it could need thousands spending on it to put right...

Best thing to do is get in with someone who has experience of the cars at your local RS group and can come and look at them with you .

A standard / stage 1 car will be no bother - providing it has been well maintained (as some are 13 year old cars now ). It is imperative that you pay extra for a good one, as there is no such thing as a cheap Cosworth - you will pay for it in one way or another eventually .

i have seen 15 grand escort cosworths that have wonky panel gaps,
paintwork sitting too heavy, front panels showing evidence of being
tweeked and repaired, and they were rsoc members pride and joy.
other people have thought they were minters
if you don't know for sure, take someone who knows mechanics
and bodywork.and hpi it.
i have had people try knocking 3 grand off the asking price of a
car i was selling so you could always look at more expensive
ones,and try offering less

Just bought myself an Escort Cossie excactly two weeks ago. Stage 1 chip, 18' OZ wheels, COS private plate, headlight conversion etc. Got all this for £14500 with 50000k and FSH. Also a RSOC car. I have to say its tremendous in every way. Stops the traffic when rumbling along. I owned an EVO FQ-300 before this. The Evo is quicker without a doubt but does'nt command the respect of the Cossie. Hope you get a one as good as mine and you may have to travel like I did. Don't go to JCT 28, there all crap in there, but you may have to find the extra dosh and go over budget

Take care,
Effy
