Default escort cos

Gents, I just sold my 360+ bhp evo, I took a N plate escort cos out the other day, it had a rattly shite dash in it and it was fecking gutless, whats going on ? thought they were performance cars

The valve stem oil seals were gone in it aswell and they wanted 12k, ive got a 3.2 v6 vectra and thats faster.

question is, what mods need doing to get these things to move ?

cheers lads, Glen

Faster where? Even stock factory detuned Escos is on any road if you don't count straight line which is good for american muscle....

Everywhere, faster to a 100mph, faster off the mark, faster top end, I mean come on wtf If you ahve driven evo's and P1's etc then you get into a standard esco you will realise what im talking about

the poxy vectra does 0-60 in 7 seconds
and 155mph

AND it handles aswell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have needed to spend 10k on that cossy to get it going as good as my evo, oh my what have I doen selling that

Once more - straight line is not of my concern. Take it to SS and we'll what car is worth Escos was build for rallying.

I drove Vectra 2.0T GTS yesterday - nice car for carring your ass around but would pay for it so much it costs.

I have small turbo Escos with little or no tweaks in the engine and I can keep up with Imprezas STi which are MUCH MUCH more modern. remember that Ford-Cosworth cars are early 80's technology in fact, I would expect Cossie to be like an Evo. Either you buy 21st century technology or rally legends of early 90's. It's like you expected 60's Ferrari to beat todays Lotus or something.

I think the car you test drove was probably in need of work. My standard EsCos kicks the arse out of the company 3.2 Vectras I used to drive. If you want Evo performance, stage 3 tuning (SS exhaust, chip, fuel pump, injectors etc) is not a large expense (Ł1500? Less?) and will get you c.330bhp and low 4 0-60's.

I'm sure plenty of people can give you proper details.

To get Evo performance you need MASSIVE investments in suspension....

did you come on here just to slate cosworths?

the vectra is in no way quicker than a cossie.
7 seconds to 60? cossie does it in 6
really think a rep mobile is quicker to launch than a 4wd
rally car? doubtful.

All this bad you talk of this cossie, and it Still seems your interested
enuogh to come on here thinking of buying one....
you must realise uner it all they are bloody good cars. lol

cool lads, im toying with a stage 3 ive found, all caged and ready to rock, 350 ish, am not atall slagging them off I just honestly expected a lot more, but as I say it was bog standard.

and dave thats a good time, my Evo RS was doing about that at 363bhp

nice figures bro.

the one im considering has brakes already, its on koni;s which I aint keen on but I guess it will be better than standard susp.

YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER EACH CAR WILL RUN DIFFERENTLY AND MANY DONT RUN AS THEY SHOULD AND THE POWER PEOPLE SAY IT KICKS OUT IS OFTEN NOT TRUE.

stage 1 it and it will be fine
steve

from my experience steve is right. mines a stg 1 small turbo and runs perfectly and i have raced sti's etc and it was as fast as them, if not a little more. it has to be set up right otherwise its wasted money putting aftermarket goddies on it

ok ok ok guys, ive got an evo 6 AND an escort cossie, and i have to say the evo pisses all over my car ( when its running lol ) BUT the cossie easily makes up for it in the stature, presence that the evo lacks! and i know i would rather the cossie over the evo anyday!

But like you guys say above, its all down to waht cossie you have, as i knopw there are many many cossies out there that would piss all over the evo!

I've been out in a mates Evo VI (360 bhp) a couple of times and to be fair it does handle nice and appears to have very little lag-hence rapid launches.......................................... .....but i've taken him out in my Cossie (500+bhp) and he's convinced the escort is a superior car, I have spent a small fortune on engine mods and handling though

The moral is get out there and try to get as many passenger rides or drives as possible, you won't be disappointed

Why compare a std escort cossy with 225bhp to a modded evo with 360bhp?
Ł12000 is not gonna get you a mint one, but it will still be worth that in a year. What's an evo or vectra gonna be worth? 25% less?

Evo 4's were not made at a similar age they began production in 96 and even in totally standard trim they will wipe the floor with the escort, mine was far from standard and was also an RS (RALLY SPEC) with plated diffs, close ratio box, running a evo 6 engine, autronics management etc etc etc.

Im still seriously looking at a nice cossie.

Dont be so quick to put me down guys, im not here to start a fight im just learning about escorts as I want one, cheers

I think Esc Cossies are the best i would have one anyday. The evos may be faster but i reckon the cossies look better and the main thing is they still hold their value. You can buy one today for around Ł15,000 and still sell it after a year for probably the same amount. I'm saying evos are faster but ive seen cossies tuned up to 450 BHP surely thats enough to kick ass on most high performance cars.

Right i feel i must say summat here, im an esc cos & evo 6 TME owner & i've always loved my esc cos but if you think the esc cos turns as many heads as my TME then im afraid you aint got a clue my friends Not only that, but it feels more responsive than my 330 bhp esc cos, handles much better with the standard suspension setup compared to the esc cos with a koni setup & just feels more solid all round. As far as depreciation is concerned, i doubt very much that im gonna loose any money on my collectors TME which in years to come is gonna be a true classic like the much loved & adored RS500. Thankyou & goodnight PS BBigman, i didnt know you sold yours mate perhaps thats why i havnt seen you on the MLR?

for me boys it has always been about looks i couldnt give a fuck about speed. dont get me wrong i have always had sports cars, but for me escort cosworth is something else. there are faster cars out there, there always will be, if it pisses you of that much tune it so it goes faster. but i would rather drive some thing that looks great, rather than drive a 1000bhp skoda.also they are so rare on the roads of today that they get more attention than any 5 door evo or any thing else in its class.

I know that whenever i'm out in the esc cossy, it gets a million times more attention then my pals Impreza P1, and about above with Evo TME put enough stickers on any car and it'll turn heads
