Went to Ford this morning to purchase an oil filter for my Escort Cossie. The guy behind the counter gives me this oil filter, which looks different to the one I have fitted to my Cossie at present. He assures me that it’s the correct one. The filter in question is a Motorcraft EFL 90, Ford part number P F1555451. On the box it states it’s for many different cars, but does not state a Cosworth. It does however state it’s for a RS 2000. It measures 9.5 cm in diameter by 9.5 cm in length. The one I have fitted to the car appears to be longer than this. So the question is, what is the right oil filter for an Escort Cosworth 1993 model.
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
John

just purchased a new one of these from fords today and got the smaller thicker version and had the longer version on the car already.
Oil change done, having no problems.
Me mate Ronnie said they just vary in size from time to time, still have the same thread size.

As far as i know the EFL298 was 2wd Cosworth specific, the EFL90 fits loads of fords, so i suppose its down to ford trying to standardise parts obviously for cost reasons. I always use a 2wd filter though, but thats because i've got 2 crates of em lol

Surley the larger filter has greater filtering capacity or an increased service interval etc. Just a guess. Better to use the correct filter than one from another Cosworth model.

Actually this said I think I'll use a 2wd next time as I have an adapter between my oil mondine arm and oil filter for gauges which made taking of the starter motor an absolute cunt of a job
Mind you I can see a remote oil filter being fitted in the future anyway
